Massive Fire Engulfs Geelong Refinery

Workers at the Corio refinery in Geelong, Victoria, described a “war zone” as a massive fire broke out, sending flames up to 60 metres into the air. The refinery supplies more than 50 per cent of Victoria’s fuel and roughly 10 per cent of Australia’s total supply, raising immediate concerns about energy security. Workers recounted “a big bloody fireball coming straight for us” as explosions and toxic smoke engulfed the site.
