Mediterranean Leaders Form United Front on Migration

Greece, Cyprus, Italy, and Malta used the Europe Gulf Forum as an opportunity to present a coordinated stance on migration and Middle Eastern security. President Nikos Christodoulides of Cyprus joined Prime Ministers Kyriakos Mitsotakis (Greece), Giorgia Meloni (Italy), and Robert Abela (Malta) in a joint declaration warning against a repeat of the 2015 migration crisis.

The four leaders agreed to work along four axes: improving regional security, ensuring humanitarian aid reaches affected populations, guaranteeing timely and comprehensive responses, and deepening cooperation on border management. The declaration signals growing southern European alarm about potential migration flows linked to instability in the Middle East, particularly as the war in Gaza continues and broader regional tensions simmer.
