Meta Mandates 7,000 Workers Shift to AI Teams

In Silicon Valley, Meta is pressing ahead with what amounts to a compulsory reorganization of its workforce around artificial intelligence. According to an exclusive report by The Guardian, the company is mandating that more than 7,000 employees move to new teams, with some being reassigned to two newly created units: one focused on AI cloud infrastructure and another building an internal AI agent codenamed “Hatch.”

Engineers received notices late last week that they had been “selected” for reassignment and would need to report to their new teams by the end of the week. The company had already reshuffled at least 1,000 engineers onto data labeling work the previous month. The message to employees was blunt: “Transfers aren’t optional.” The moves underscore the breakneck speed at which major tech companies are restructuring around AI, regardless of worker preferences.
