US-Iran Peace Agreement Signed at G7 Summit

In what may be the most consequential diplomatic development of 2026, President Donald Trump signed a memorandum of understanding with Iran at the G7 summit, formally ending the war between the two countries. The agreement was signed at the meeting of world leaders, with both the United States and Iran confirming the deal.

In a notable departure from the pomp often associated with such milestones, both sides have ruled out holding a formal signing ceremony. The lack of ceremony, however, does little to diminish the significance of the accord, which closes a chapter of escalating tensions and open conflict between Washington and Tehran.

The peace deal was one of several major items on the G7 agenda. The group of leading democracies also turned its attention to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, issuing a joint statement announcing plans to “increase the delivery of air defense capacities, additional systems and interceptors, and long-range capabilities” to Kyiv.
