After months of critical stabilisation and repair work on its steep slopes, the Corinth Canal officially reopened to maritime traffic on Wednesday, June 17. The 6.4-kilometre waterway — a vital shortcut between the Gulf of Corinth and the Saronic Gulf — had been closed for extensive engineering interventions. Greek authorities emphasised the canal’s importance for navigation, tourism, and the local economy, particularly with the summer season underway. All major safety-related works have been completed, according to the operating company, though some secondary interventions may continue.
Separately, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis unveiled “PosoKanei,” a new consumer app allowing shoppers to compare supermarket prices in real time — billing it as a “weapon against high prices.”
