Middle East Conflicts Deepen

The war in Iran — a central grievance of the “No Kings” protesters — is reverberating across the wider Middle East. Yemen’s Houthi militia launched cruise missiles and drones at southern Israel for the second consecutive day, while hundreds of Israelis staged their own protests against the war. Iran, meanwhile, is reportedly moving to open the Strait of Hormuz to Pakistani shipping, a sign of shifting alliances in the region.

In southern Lebanon, an Israeli airstrike killed three journalists. The Israeli military confirmed the killing of Al Manar correspondent Ali Shoeib, accusing him of having “operated within the Hezbollah terrorist organisation under the guise of a journalist.” The deaths add to growing international concern over press freedom in the region’s overlapping conflicts.
