NATO Scrambles for Hormuz

The diplomatic maneuvering is equally fraught. According to The Guardian, citing two European diplomats briefed by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, President Trump wants concrete commitments from allies “within the next few days” for help securing the Strait of Hormuz. This appeared to confirm a report in the German economic daily Handelsblatt that NATO was considering a naval mission to secure the strait — a move framed as an effort to “appease” Trump.

Meanwhile, on Capitol Hill, House Democrats failed to pass a symbolic war powers resolution aimed at reasserting congressional authority over the conflict. House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries accused Trump of “unhinged behavior,” but Republicans successfully thwarted the effort. The vote’s failure means the executive branch retains a free hand in managing the ceasefire and any potential re-escalation.
