Pakistan Presents Dual Budgets Amid Regional Uncertainty

Pakistan saw twin budget presentations this week. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah unveiled the provincial budget for FY2026-27, pledging to “maintain fiscal discipline, strengthen public finances, and sustain development momentum.” The session was briefly disrupted when MQM-P lawmakers boycotted proceedings, complaining they had not been consulted. Shah also referenced the devastating Gul Plaza fire, noting the Sindh government had approved a Rs8.45 billion relief package in response.

At the federal level, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called the national budget “people-friendly” and expressed hope it would promote an “export-oriented” economy, with measures aimed at empowering women and increasing their economic participation.
