The Epstein Shadow Lengthens

A purported suicide note written by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has been made public after a U.S. judge unsealed the document in criminal proceedings. The release adds another layer to the Epstein saga that has dogged public officials and political figures for years.

The reverberations were felt almost immediately on Capitol Hill. U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick faced fierce criticism following a closed congressional hearing about his connections to Epstein. Democratic lawmakers described his testimony as evasive, nervous, and dishonest. According to Norway’s Dagbladet, the performance was so poor that it prompted renewed questions about whether President Trump might move to dismiss him — a prospect one observer called “embarrassing.”

Meanwhile, former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani is seeking to have his health care covered by the World Trade Center Health Program, the federal initiative set up for first responders and others affected by the September 11 attacks. Giuliani, who was mayor at the time of the attacks, attended the ceremony marking the 24th anniversary of 9/11.
