Trump Threatens 100% Tariff on French Wine Over Digital Tax

President Donald Trump threatened to impose a 100% tariff on French wine and champagne unless Paris eliminates its digital services tax on American technology companies, according to the New York Post. France introduced a 3% levy in 2019 on revenues earned within its borders by tech giants including Facebook, Amazon, Apple, and Alphabet.

The threat came on the eve of a meeting between Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron ahead of the G7 summit in Evian. “Tariffs benefit no one,” Macron told French television, pledging “respectful but firm” dialogue. The move is the latest salvo in Trump’s broader use of trade pressure as a geopolitical tool.
