Weinstein Faces Retrial on 2013 Rape Charge

Nearly eight years after his arrest, Harvey Weinstein is back in a Manhattan courtroom. Prosecutors opened their case Tuesday by casting the disgraced former movie mogul as someone who used Hollywood power as “a tool of sexual assault.” The retrial follows a previous jury’s failure to reach a verdict on a 2013 rape charge. Weinstein has switched legal teams, but his new attorneys appear to be echoing the same defense themes. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg was present in the courtroom as opening statements began in what remains a bellwether case of the #MeToo movement.
