Peru’s 2026 general election remains on a knife’s edge. With over 91 per cent of votes counted, Roberto Sánchez has taken a narrow lead over Rafael López Aliaga for the coveted second spot in a runoff — likely against frontrunner Keiko Fujimori. Electoral authorities are set to review more than 4,000 contested ballot sheets that could determine the final result.
