Suspected Ukrainian Drone Explodes in Romanian Port

A suspected Ukrainian maritime drone exploded in the Romanian port of Constanta on Friday morning, prompting a major emergency response and the evacuation of the surrounding area. The unmanned vessel, reportedly resembling the MAGURA V5 model used by Kyiv’s forces, was discovered several hundred meters from the port’s oil terminal. It was carrying explosives and became entangled in an anti-pollution barrier before detonating.

Romania’s Defense Ministry confirmed the object self-detonated at approximately 10:30 AM local time. The incident is particularly significant given Romania’s status as a NATO member state, and additional drones have reportedly been spotted in the area. The proximity of the explosion to both critical energy infrastructure and the headquarters of Romania’s Agency for Saving Human Life at Sea has raised urgent questions about maritime security in the Black Sea region.
