Even as Pakistan basked in its diplomatic success, a sobering domestic forecast emerged. The Pakistan Meteorological Department projected below-normal rainfall and higher-than-normal temperatures across most of the country from July through September. Developing El Niño conditions and a shifting Indian Ocean Dipole are expected to suppress monsoon rains — a worrying outlook for a country heavily dependent on agriculture and already grappling with water scarcity.
