Protests in Albania have entered their fourth week and show no signs of abating. What began as opposition to a controversial luxury resort project backed by Jared Kushner — son-in-law of US President Donald Trump — on the ecologically sensitive Vjosa-Narta wetland has expanded into a nationwide movement demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Dubbed the “Flamingo Revolution” after the wading birds that inhabit the threatened wetland, the protests have drawn members of the Albanian diaspora back to the country to join the demonstrations, according to RT and local media reports. The movement reflects broader frustrations with governance and perceived cronyism.
