A tentative peace deal signed just eleven days ago between Washington and Tehran is teetering on the brink of collapse. The US and Iran have exchanged military strikes multiple times since Friday, with each side accusing the other of violating the interim agreement signed on June 17.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a blunt statement on Sunday: “The aggressor enemy’s very nature is to violate treaties and break promises.” The US reportedly attacked Iranian coastal infrastructure using what the IRGC called a “pretext.” Meanwhile, France’s Le Monde reported that Iran is threatening vessels in the Strait of Hormuz that attempt to bypass its designated shipping routes — raising the specter of a wider disruption to global oil supplies through one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints.
