Away from the battlefield but not far from the political fray, actor Jane Fonda led a rally outside Washington’s Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on Friday. Around a hundred invited guests — journalists, musicians, and writers — gathered to protest what they described as threats to free speech under the Trump administration, including book bans and political censorship.
“Break your silence” and “stand tall against authoritarianism,” Fonda urged the crowd at the damp but defiant event, organized by her Committee for the First Amendment.
