Building Collapse in Cyprus Leaves Residents Trapped

On the afternoon of Holy Saturday, part of a four-storey apartment building in the Germasogeia area of Limassol, Cyprus, collapsed without warning, triggering an emergency response involving police, fire services, and Greece’s special disaster unit (EMAK).

Three people were transported to hospital, while rescue crews battled to reach at least one person believed to still be trapped in the rubble. The building, located on Aeschylou Street near the Germasogeia River, was inhabited — clothing was still visible hanging on the rooftop terrace at the time of the collapse. Reports conflicted on whether the structure was a fully occupied residential building or one that was still partially under construction. The cause of the collapse has not yet been determined, and authorities continue to investigate.
