Ebola Outbreak Spreads from Congo to Uganda

Uganda confirmed an outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus on Thursday after a patient died in an intensive care unit exhibiting symptoms of hemorrhagic fever. Health authorities attributed the outbreak to the Bundibugyo strain and described it as “imported” from the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo, where 246 suspected cases and 65 deaths have already been recorded.

The Africa Centres for Disease Control convened an emergency meeting with officials from the DRC, Uganda, South Sudan, and international partners to strengthen cross-border surveillance. The outbreak is a stark reminder that Ebola remains a persistent and often fatal threat in Central and East Africa.
