On the health front, France’s Health Minister Stéphanie Rist warned the National Assembly that it is not yet known whether the hantavirus strain currently circulating has mutated. “There are things we don’t know,” she told legislators. “We don’t yet have the full sequence of the virus… We cannot be certain that this virus has not mutated.” The World Health Organization has reported 11 confirmed cases, and dozens of contacts are under surveillance. The specter of COVID-era variant tracking looms large over the response.
