Iran-US Talks at a Standstill

Negotiations between the United States and Iran appear to have hit a wall. Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, stated plainly: “The only thing we demanded are Iran’s legitimate rights.” Tehran is pushing for an end to hostilities and the release of frozen Iranian assets held by the U.S.

El País described the situation as “a truce at a standstill,” suggesting that while neither side is escalating, neither is making meaningful concessions. The impasse carries significant implications for regional stability, particularly regarding Iran’s nuclear program and its influence across the Middle East.
