Meloni Fires Back at Trump: “Focus on Your Own Popularity”

Across the Channel, another political spat made headlines. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni publicly rebuked U.S. President Donald Trump after he claimed on Truth Social that she had repeatedly asked him for a photo at the G7 summit in France this week, adding that she was doing poorly in Italian polls “possibly because she rejected the United States of America.”

Meloni, in a pointed Instagram post, called Trump’s remarks “constant and unjustified attacks” with no basis in reality. She noted that “being his friend certainly hasn’t helped” her popularity and invited the American president to “focus on his own.” The exchange marks a notable fracture in what was once seen as one of the closest transatlantic right-wing alliances.
