The courtroom drama centres on the foundational question of what OpenAI was supposed to be — a nonprofit devoted to safe artificial intelligence research for the benefit of humanity, or an entity that was always destined to evolve into the commercial juggernaut it has become. Musk, who co-founded and early-funded the organisation, has argued that Altman and other leaders betrayed the original mission.
