On a more forward-looking note, US company Vast announced a crewed mission to its planned Haven-1 commercial space station, scheduled for launch in early 2027. If successful, Haven-1 would become history’s first commercial space station, beating several competitors in the race to replace the ageing International Space Station, which is due to be deorbited in 2030. The announcement underscores the accelerating privatization of low-Earth orbit — and the West’s push for independence from Russian space infrastructure amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
