In what may be the biggest corporate leadership story of the year, Apple has announced that CEO Tim Cook will stand down after nearly 15 years at the helm of the world’s most valuable company. Apple has already named his successor, though Cook will remain with the company in a new role. Cook took over from co-founder Steve Jobs in August 2011 and oversaw Apple’s transformation into a multi-trillion-dollar enterprise, steering the company through the era of services expansion, wearable technology, and — more recently — artificial intelligence. The transition marks the end of a chapter for a leader who was widely credited with operational excellence and navigating Apple through intense geopolitical and regulatory pressures.
