US-Iran Talks Conclude in Islamabad

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar briefed his Saudi, Egyptian, and Turkish counterparts on Sunday following the conclusion of US-Iran talks hosted in Islamabad. The negotiations, which wrapped in the early morning hours, represented a significant diplomatic achievement for Pakistan, positioning itself as a credible mediator in one of the world’s most dangerous standoffs.

Dar stressed “the importance of all parties adhering to their ceasefire commitments” and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting ongoing dialogue. The Strait of Hormuz — through which roughly a fifth of global oil passes — loomed as backdrop to the talks, with reports that the Trump administration had been threatening measures related to the already-disrupted waterway, a move analysts warned could carry “potentially catastrophic consequences for the global economy.”
