In one of the most horrifying attacks of Sudan’s grinding civil war, a drone strike on a healthcare facility in East Darfur has killed at least 64 people — including 13 children — and wounded 89 more, the World Health Organization reported Saturday.
WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus condemned the attack, and the UN’s humanitarian office in Sudan said it was “appalled.” The victims included medical personnel, making it yet another instance in which healthcare workers have been targeted in a conflict that has already displaced millions. The strike was reportedly carried out by the Sudanese army, further eroding any remaining norms around the protection of civilian infrastructure in the nearly two-year-old war.
