Workplace Deaths and Injuries Highlight Safety Concerns in Greece

In Athens, a worker was killed instantly in an explosion at a power substation operated by Greece’s Public Power Corporation (DEH) in the Patissia neighborhood. Separately, a 37-year-old Greek man was injured while performing work aboard a Cyprus-flagged passenger-vehicle ferry docked at the New Pier of Drapetsona. He was rushed by ambulance to Attikon University General Hospital. The circumstances of both incidents are under investigation, and the back-to-back events are likely to renew calls for stricter workplace safety enforcement in Greece.
