Airstrikes Aren’t Working — So Now What?

The US military campaign against Iran has reached an inflection point. After missile strikes failed to break Tehran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz — the narrow waterway through which roughly a fifth of the world’s oil supply passes — President Donald Trump is now weighing what multiple outlets describe as a “high-stakes gamble” to shift the war from the air to the ground.

The options on the table reportedly include seizing the strait itself, an operation that would require a significant commitment of US ground troops in one of the most strategically sensitive chokepoints on earth. The G7 group of industrialized nations has called for attacks on civilians to stop, and Israel has separately launched strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities, adding another volatile dimension to an already sprawling conflict.
