In more somber news, five Indian Air Force soldiers were killed on Saturday when an Antonov AN-32 military transport plane crashed during a landing attempt at a base in Jorhat, in the northeastern state of Assam. The bimotor aircraft, of Russian manufacture, remains in use by India’s armed forces for transport operations. Emergency protocols were activated immediately, and the Indian Air Force confirmed the fatalities in an official statement. An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
