Drone Strikes a JetBlue Plane Approaching JFK

In New York, a JetBlue Airlines aircraft collided with a drone at approximately 3,000 feet during its final approach to John F. Kennedy International Airport on Monday morning. The pilot reported the strike to air traffic control around 7:15 a.m., noting the drone hit above the cockpit.

The incident came just days after a United Airlines plane narrowly avoided a drone collision while landing at Newark Airport. The growing frequency of near-misses and direct hits between commercial aircraft and drones is raising urgent questions about airspace safety — and the adequacy of current regulations around unmanned aerial vehicles near major airports.
