Easter Truce Collapses as Ukraine and Russia Resume Strikes

A brief Orthodox Easter ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine unraveled almost as soon as it began. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Ukrainian forces violated the 32-hour truce more than 6,500 times, with the vast majority of incidents involving first-person-view (FPV) drone strikes. Russia reported 4,685 FPV drone attacks and 749 munitions dropped from drones during the supposed pause.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had announced the unilateral ceasefire last week, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signaled Kiev would also observe it — even calling on Moscow to extend it. But the reality on the ground told a different story. While combat activity reportedly decreased on Saturday and Sunday, it never fully stopped. By Monday, both countries had resumed full-scale attacks, launching dozens of drones at each other’s territory.
