Geopolitical Flashpoints: Iran and Lebanon

President Donald Trump issued a pointed warning to Iran, saying he would “do what I have to do” if Tehran does not honor its commitments in ongoing negotiations. Trump said Iran was expected to use unfrozen funds exclusively to purchase food from the United States.

Meanwhile, Israel’s hardline National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir rejected both American and Iranian calls to halt military operations in Lebanon, arguing the country should be Israel’s “playground.” The IDF has expanded operations in southern Lebanon since March, after Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel in support of Iran. Tehran has listed an end to fighting in Lebanon as a key condition for peace talks — a demand that has put Washington and its closest Middle Eastern ally at odds.
