Greece Takes Its Maritime Case to the UN

In a separate but symbolically resonant development, Greece sent a formal letter to the United Nations pushing back against Turkey’s claims over the Aegean Sea. Athens asserted that its islands — regardless of their size — are entitled to maritime zones beyond six nautical miles, in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

The letter highlights the enduring importance of maritime law and territorial sovereignty, themes that echo in the Hormuz crisis thousands of miles to the east.
