A shooting involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Houston is under renewed scrutiny after an attorney for the victim said the bags agents allegedly identified as drugs actually contained salt. According to the victim’s brother, he, his sibling, and two other workers were heading to a construction job when ICE agents chased them and then opened fire.
The FBI has been involved in searching for drugs in connection with the incident. The case adds to an already heated national debate over the use of force in immigration enforcement and the reliability of field-level assessments used to justify deadly encounters.
