Met Gala 2026: “Fashion Is Art” Draws Beyoncé Back to the Red Carpet

Fashion’s biggest night returned to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York with a theme that blurred the line between couture and canvas. Under the banner “Costume Art” and the dress code “Fashion Is Art,” the 2026 Met Gala drew a star-studded roster of co-chairs including Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, and Venus Williams, alongside Vogue’s Anna Wintour.

The Guardian noted standout moments early on the carpet. Chloe Malle, attending her first gala as Vogue’s head of editorial content, wore an “egg-yolk” dress with delicate cap sleeves. Lauren Sánchez Bezos arrived in a Schiaparelli gown by Daniel Roseberry that paid homage to John Singer Sargent’s 1884 painting Madame X — the portrait of socialite Virginie Amélie Avegno Gautreau that scandalized Parisian society for its perceived raciness. Hugh Jackman, Troye Sivan, and Lena Dunham were also among the attendees. For many observers, the headline was Beyoncé’s return to the red carpet after a notable absence.
