North Korean leader Kim Jong Un inspected a new high-thrust solid-fuel rocket engine and a new battle tank, as Pyongyang steps up its military development program. According to state news agency KCNA, the engine achieved a maximum thrust of 2,500 kilonewtons. The ground test is part of a new five-year defense development plan aimed at upgrading the country’s strategic strike capabilities — a program that will heighten anxiety across the Asia-Pacific and in Washington.
