Norwegian Crown Princess Placed on Lung Transplant List

Norway’s royal palace announced that Crown Princess Mette-Marit, 52, has been placed on the waiting list for a lung transplant following a deterioration of her chronic lung condition. The wife of Crown Prince Haakon was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in 2018 — a chronic disease that causes scarring of the lungs and severely impairs oxygen absorption.

The palace’s official statement described the condition as “life-threatening,” noting that the decision came after thorough medical examinations. Rikshospitalet, Norway’s national hospital, held a press conference Friday afternoon to brief the public on the princess’s health situation. Doctors characterized the situation as “dangerous.”
