Since the military coup in February 2021, Myanmar’s civil war has now claimed more than 100,000 lives, according to an NGO report. There is no official death toll — the military junta has never acknowledged the full scale of the violence. The conflict, which pits the military against a constellation of resistance forces and ethnic armed organizations, continues to rage with little sign of resolution. The staggering figure underscores how one of Asia’s deadliest modern conflicts continues to unfold largely out of the global spotlight.
