A different kind of battle is playing out in the cryptocurrency world. World Liberty Financial, the digital-asset venture co-founded by Donald Trump and his sons, filed a defamation lawsuit in Florida state court against Hong Kong-based crypto entrepreneur Justin Sun. The complaint, posted on X by the company itself, accuses Sun of launching a “public smear campaign” designed to “torch” the firm’s reputation.
According to the lawsuit, Sun allegedly transferred WLFI governance tokens improperly to the Binance exchange and placed bets that the token’s market value would decline. The case marks a dramatic rupture between the Trump-affiliated project and one of its most prominent early backers, and it adds another layer of controversy to the former president’s expanding crypto portfolio.
